White Chimney Estates “Living History”, Gap, PA
July 21-22, 2023

Once again 69th Pa assembled it’s membership and the families of descendants at White Chimney Estates in Gap Pennsylvania for a two battle, “Living History”, music entertainment event which has in it’s third year become known by many at the Pa 69th Summer Picnic. In a beautiful area of rolling hills Confederate and Union forces did battle to reproduce the Falling Waters phase of Lee’s retreat from Gettysburg.

The Confederate challenge was to halt the retreat of the Army of North Virginia across the Potomac river. The Federal task was to capture the rear guard of the Rebel force as they retreated back to Virginia. Infantry from the 69th Pa (both Eastern & Western Units) was aided by artillery from the 28th Pa in battle with the 23rd NC and the 1st W.V. Cavalry.

Amidst these battles was a well attended collection of musical presentations by the 69th Civil War band plus tables of Amish foods as well as historical booths.

Beautiful weather prevailed during the event and music around the campfire sounded far into the night both Friday and Saturday. The event ended with a spectacular fireworks display. The attendance by members, descendants and family guests numbered 33. Over $1000 was raised for the gravestone project.
