Lawnview Cemetery – Veterans Day

Each year the 69^th continues to place gravestones on the unmarked “final resting places” of the soldiers who fought 1861-1865 in our regiment. Ceremonies are usually held in conjunction with both Memorial Day and veterans Day This a very very special ceremony was held at Lawnview Cemetery in Rockledge Pa. This event marked the 100^th grave marker paid and placed by the 69^th Pa. On Saturday November 13^th the 100^th stone marker along with two family markers were honored. The seven men honored included men wounded and captured at Gettysburg; Antietam; Glendale and Cold Harbor. Four died during the war and others died afterward to be buried and never have a grave marker on top of their burial site. 26 members of the 69^th gathered to the music of the 69^th band and were joined by members of the 28^th Pa as well as other descendants of our Civil War 69th  soldiers early in the morning to begin the services. Private Don Ernsberger opened the ceremony with a few words about the special nature of the 100^th gravestone and then explained  how all of those honored were originally buried in other cemeteries which had been closed and then demolished.
