Remembrance Day at Gettysburg
November 17-18, 2023
The 69th “Irish Volunteers” assemble at Gettysburg each year in November to honor our heroes. After a rousing performance by the band at the Reliance Saloon Friday evening, Saturday morning brought a service at the National Cemetery for the 21 men buried there.
This was followed by a march to our monument at the stone wall where members, descendants, & old comrades again pay tribute to the men who fought Pickett to a standstill July 3,1863.
This year we added several elements to our ceremony. Realizing that we have now located more than 350 direct descendants of the men who fought in the 69th Pa from 1861-1865 and have their e-mail and postal addresses, we invited the descendants of the Company D to participate in our role call. We ended the ceremony with all attending placing boxwood on the monument.
